Like all FCA teams, cross-country exists to glorify God by using our athletic abilities. We have regular devotions and reflect on how often God uses running and racing as analogy for the Christian life.
Practice: The best way to improve in XC is to RUN. We mix regular runs with speedwork and long runs.
Days: Practices are typically Monday and Thursday at 4:00-6:00PM (Middle School finishes by 5:30) and Saturday morning (optional for middle school) at 8:00-10:00AM. Most weeks we will have a meet on Tuesdays.
Location: Mon/Thurs: Cedar Lane Regional Park, 1100 Cedar Ln, Bel Air, MD 21015. Some Thursday practices will be at a local track. Saturdays: Ma and Pa Trail - Williams St. in Bel Air.
Rules: A cross-country meet consists of a 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) race. Team scoring is accomplished by adding up the places of the top five runners, with low score winning. If we don’t have five runners, we do not score as a team, but individuals can still run and get an individual place. Boys and girls meets are together, sometimes running at the exact same time, and separating results, and sometimes running separate races immediately after the other. The rules for middle school are the same, but in some places MS runs a separate 2 mile race, and sometimes runs the same 5k distance.
League: We are part of the Mid-Atlantic Independent League (MIL) for both middle school and varsity. This league has five schools with XC. The other schools are in Cecil County Maryland, one in DE, and one in PA. We also participate in a few non-conference and invitational meets.
Athletes: Cross-country includes varsity and middle school and both boys and girls teams (technically 4 teams) who practice and go to meets together. Our teams consist of both new and experienced runners. All abilities are welcome.

Registration: The registration fee for 2019 is $300 for varsity and $75 for middle school. This includes league and meet registration, uniforms, team apparel, and home course set-up. For varsity, it also includes the costs for the Ohio road trip. Required registration forms are on this website.
